Pour s'affranchir des inconvénients résultant des pannes d'équipement et des accidents éventuels (...) les autorités exploitantes des aéroports modernes se sont tournées vers les passerelles d'embarquement fixes. Sur ce type de passerelles, la tête d'embarquement ne se déplace plus que suivant deux dimensions : en hauteur et en profondeur pour s'adapter aux issues des différents types d'avion venant à l'accostage.
